19 October

As part of the 10th anniversary of the Maison de la Pierre and the Journées nationales de l'architecture, retrace the journey of stone in Creil, from the hillsides to Place Carnot.

Did you know that Creil owes its name to this building material? The town still bears the traces of its quarrying in the landscape, but also in the names of its streets and neighbourhoods: Cavée de Senlis, cavée de Paris, rue des pierres, rue des tufs, passage des carrières...
From ancient times to the present day, you'll discover how people extracted, transported and used the stone from the south of the Oise to build Haussmann's Paris!
