The Cziffra Foundation is delighted to welcome the Tokyo Philharmonic Choir on Tuesday 15 October 2024.

The Tokyo Philharmonic Choir, founded in 1956, is Japan's first professional choir, made up of graduates of Japanese music conservatories and representing the highest level of choral singing in the country.

The choir's repertoire is very varied, but it focuses particularly on contemporary works by international composers such as Einojuhani Rautavaara, Raymond Murray Schafer, Chinary Ung, Jonas Tamulionis and Perttu Haapanen. To date, the choir has performed 211 world premiere commissions. They have acquired expertise in this repertoire and play a crucial role in the interpretation of contemporary choral music.

One of the most notable premieres is Toru Takemitsu's "Wind Horse", which is now part of the repertoire of international choirs. The current musical director, Kazuki Yamada, is one of the most renowned conductors in Japan and internationally. The choir also works closely with conductors such as Nobuaki Tanaka, Wolfdieter Maurer, Chifuru Matsubara, Kenji Otani, Hiroyuki Mito and Shigeru Yamada.

Tickets now available online and at the Senlis Tourist Office.
