For over a century, bobbin lace production was one of the town's main economic activities. Chantilly lace had its moment of glory in the 19th century when, black in colour and exceptionally fine, it covered the toilettes of famous women. Empress Eugénie de Montijo was its ambassador to the French court. The Musée de la dentelle de Chantilly tells the story of this long-forgotten Chantilly craft, presenting collectors' items and the various stages in the manufacture of bobbin lace.
At the same time, the museum aims to be a link between past and present, regularly exhibiting designers who use, sublimate or play with lace, and contemporary artists whose work resonates with this savoir-faire. This autumn, discover the new temporary exhibition...
