On 22 and 23 November 2024, La Petite Vadrouille presents its show "Ophelia" at the Coye-la-Forêt Cultural Centre, 21 rue d'Hérivaux. A blend of theatre, film and painting, the show tells the fateful story of Lizzie Siddal, painter, poet and eternal OPHELIA.
London, 1850. Lizzie Siddal, a young milliner, becomes the muse of a small group of rebellious, romantic painters: the Pre-Raphaelites, led by Rossetti and Millais. Rossetti, in love with Lizzie, was obsessed by her beauty and portrayed her as Beatrice, the emblematic figure of courtly love. Millais, for his part, wanted her to pose for his future painting Ophelia. Exhilarated by the idea of playing this character, Lizzie threw herself into the adventure despite Rossetti's objections and fears. Little did she know that some time later, in a bathtub, she would become a tragic Shakespearean heroine forever. Between her tumultuous relationship with Rossetti and her tragic end, which has given rise to numerous macabre tales, the figure of Elizabeth Siddal haunts English art but remains unknown to the French public. What mystery lies behind a destiny so similar to that of the heroine for whom she posed? Was this painting an omen of doom?
A blend of theatre, poetry, film and painting, Ophelia is a fateful tale that has become a myth, the story of a woman who loved passionately, aspired to become an artist and is imprisoned in this painting for eternity...
