Since it was founded in 1222, the Victory has been closely linked to the history of France. It was to commemorate the double victory in 1214 of King Philippe Auguste against Othon IV at Bouvines and of his son Louis VIII against Jean sans Terre at La Roche aux Moines, that the King decided to build an abbey which would take the name of "la Victoire".
